FDU SLICE Team Creates Dream Room for Emmy

Healing Spaces - Emmy Project

Healing Spaces – Emmy's Dream Room Project

December 21, 2014 - As the Holiday Season and spirit of giving gets underway, the Healing Spaces SLICE (Student Leaders In Community Entrepreneurship) team of Fairleigh Dickinson University - led a Dream Room makeover in Paterson, New Jersey.  Healing Spaces, a New Jersey–based nonprofit organization "Brings Healing to Home" of kids with cancer and other serious illnesses, by creating a unique healing environment in their home — a completely renovated bedroom that provides a happy, tranquil and safe space for kids to recover.
Through several fundraising events at the FDU campus in Madison and support from Healing Spaces, the FDU SLICE team constructed a dream bedroom for a 20-year-old Emmy, who suffers from sickle cell disease and the associated respiratory and bone problems that arise from this life-long disorder. Emmy will now be able to rest comfortably in her Dream Room for many years to come. The renovated bedroom includes plenty of storage space, a desk, air purifier, new bed, chandelier, and even a smart TV. Emmy and her family seemed ecstatic with all of the renovations. When asked about her new room Emmy said, “I just love it… It describes me perfectly.”

However, this wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Mark Dumoff, President and Co-founder of Healing Spaces; Lyani Powers, Interior Designer, whose spirit and  touch brought magic to the space, and Jessenia Rodriguez, Presdent of Healing Spaces – SLICE Team at FDU (Madison Campus) for organizing all of the members of the project team.

Our heartfelt thanks goes out to the Tomorrows Children's Institute at Hackensack University Medical Center for their nomination of kids and families in need; and to our valued community business supporters which include: Sharp Electronics for their wonderful products that bring joy and entertainment; The Marriott Hotel at Saddle Brook for the luxury accommodations and dining over the weekend; Seela's Paint of Wayne for all the Benjamin Moore paints and supplies needed to create such a warm environment; and to Best Buy of Woodland Park.
